China Cloud Provider Enhances Service Value with Coriant Data Center Interconnect Solution
Beijing Internet Harbor Expands Flexibility of Transport Infrastructure with Coriant ROADM Technology to Meet Growing Demand for On-demand Data Center Connectivity
NAPERVILLE, Illinois, 21 July 2015 – Coriant, a global supplier of SDN-enabled end-to-end transport networking solutions, today announced that Beijing Internet Harbor Technology Co. (Beijing Internet Harbor), a data center and cloud services provider in China, has expanded its deployment of the Coriant® 7100 Nano™ Packet Optical Transport Platform in the Beijing metropolitan area with the introduction of full Reconfigurable Optical Add Drop Multiplexer (ROADM) functionality. The network expansion brings a new level of on-demand agility to Beijing Internet Harbor's Data Center Interconnect (DCI) backbone network and enhances the value-added cloud services the company offers to large and small Internet companies and enterprises throughout China.
"Demand for flexible, secure, and reliable cloud connectivity continues to grow in China, and the ability to rapidly respond to the needs of our Internet and enterprise customers in this dynamic environment gives us a distinct competitive advantage," said Mr. Ren Zhiyuan, CEO, Beijing Internet Harbor. "With the earlier DCI backbone deployment in Shanghai and Guangzhou metropolitan areas, we are now ready to provide high quality data center service to any high demanding customers throughout China. The robust features of the Coriant 7100 solution, including multi-degree ROADM functionality, have enabled us to create an agile and scalable transport infrastructure optimized for the dynamic demands of both inter-data center and enterprise-to-data center applications. As we expand the reach and capabilities of our services portfolio, the proven performance of our transport network is playing a critical role in defining tangible customer value – including lower IT costs, improved productivity, and always-on availability for business-critical applications."
With the industry's highest density ROADM, 10G, 100G, and packet grooming capabilities, the 7100 Packet Optical Transport Platform enables Beijing Internet Harbor to dramatically reduce space and power requirements while improving overall network efficiencies. In addition, the implementation of full ROADM and Optical Express functionality across the network introduces further benefits, including accelerated service activation times, reduced regeneration costs, and improved network reliability. By eliminating manual intervention and dramatically simplifying network engineering, ROADMs can accelerate service activation times by as much as 80%. Additionally, because ROADMs can balance signal power levels more accurately than manual balancing, they provide better overall optical performance in the network. This improved optical performance can result in a reduction in the number of times a signal will require costly electrical regeneration before reaching its destination. Elimination of these expensive electrical regeneration points can save as much as 30% in equipment costs.
"The true value of network flexibility cannot be underestimated as dynamic, high-capacity service demands pressure test infrastructure networks," said Tarcisio Ribeiro, Executive Vice President, Global Sales & Services, Coriant. "By transforming technology innovation into real-world service value for end-user customers, we are helping data center operators around the world like Beijing Internet Harbor capitalize on the cloud computing and mobile Internet opportunities that are reshaping our industry."
