TeliaSonera International Carrier and Coriant in Successful Pan-European Field Trial with Optical Transmission Speeds up to 400G
Trial Showcases Application-Optimized Flexibility and Efficiency with Programmable 400G 8QAM/16QAM Flexi-rate Transmission over a 1,634 Kilometer Pan-European Fiber Optic Link
STOCKHOLM and NAPERVILLE, 23 June 2015 – TeliaSonera International Carrier (TSIC) and Coriant, a global vendor of SDN-enabled end-to-end transport networking solutions, today announced the successful completion of a field trial demonstrating innovative flexi-rate technology that supports the dynamic and cost-efficient provisioning of optical transmission speeds up to 400G per channel based on application-specific bit rate, reach, and modulation requirements.

Conducted over multiple spans across a 1,634 kilometer fiber optic route between Paris, Luxembourg, and Frankfurt, the TSIC field trial featured the successful transmission of three different software-programmable modulation formats – QPSK, 8QAM, and 16QAM – over the complete distance of 1,634 kilometers each. The trial also featured a variety of line-side transmission speeds (100G, 200G, 300G, 400G) in a mix of capacity and reach application test scenarios. The link represented a popular network scenario, being based purely on Standard Single-Mode Fiber (SSMF) and EDFA-only amplification.

The trial was implemented on TSIC's existing Coriant® hiT 7300 Multi-Haul Transport Platforms. The 400G flexi-rate trial used new Coriant CloudWave™ Optics, a versatile suite of software-programmable photonic layer technologies that brings a new level of flexibility, efficiency, and scalability to next-generation optical transmission networks.
